All interested directors are invited to submit up to three(3) of the shows listed above that you are interested in directing (any additional scripts beyond the first three listed will not be considered).
Directors are encouraged to provide 1-2 paragraphs describing their vision for each show submission. If you are submitting a production that you have previously directed, share with us something that you wish to improve upon if your submission is selected.
Please send your submissions and theatrical resume to submissions@olathetheatre.org
Additionally, please indicate the months of the year, from fall 2024 to late spring/early summer 2025, that you are available to direct.
DEADLINE: January 15, 2024
You will receive an e-mail confirming that the committee has received your submissions by the deadline. If you do not receive an e-mail confirmation at that time, please reach out to us! E-mails can get stuck in spam folders.
The committee will contact you after the first of the year in 2024 to schedule an interview and provide more info on the process.
Depending on COVID rates at that time, interviews may be in person or virtual. (We will do whatever is safe at that time.)
We aim to have our season selected early in 2024.
Dimensions of OCTA’s stage
The OCTA stage and theater are geared toward smaller shows, but we’ve had directors create wonderfully imaginative staging for larger cast shows.
Click OCTAStageDimensions2 to use as a guideline as you consider your submissions.

The Curious Savage
A Man of No Importance
The Haunting of Hill House
Violet
Sunday in the Park with George
Bring your vision to your show
If you have a non-traditional way you would like to see a show performed, we would love to hear it!
While the interview also provides you this opportunity to go into a high level of details, it is helpful to know at the initial submission as well.
Summaries of the shows are great, but we would also like to read about your vision and any staff members you have in mind.
You do not need to have your staff fully committed to submit!
If multiple people submit the same show, all directors will be interviewed
While this does not happen often, it has happened in the past.
If this does occur, you will be informed before your interview that someone else submitted the same show.
At OCTA, we own our building
You have access to the performance space for rehearsals from day one, so you won’t have to lug props or costumes from one location to another.
When scheduling our season, the first few rehearsals of one show might need to take place somewhere other than OCTA if it overlaps with a current show. This will be communicated during selection.
New and veteran directors
We encourage potential new directors to shadow or assistant direct alongside veteran OCTA directors.
We encourage veteran OCTA directors to mentor or assistant direct alongside potential new OCTA directors
These opportunities can be discussed in more detail during the interview stage.
OCTA’s working board
This season, we have 12 board members who play different roles during productions
The board aims to make sure productions happen safely, with high quality visions. If selected, the board will work with you to ensure your approved vision is executed on stage.
Each show will have a designated OCTA Board Production Manager.
Also, we don’t interfere with your artistic decisions. Show us you can do it, and we’ll help make it possible!
