WHAT TO PREPARE/BRING:
– Please prepare 16-32 bars of any song, or 16 bars of one song and 16 bars of another song to show your range. We are looking to cast people who can sing in different styles of theatre: Rodgers and Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Jerry Herman, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Kander and Ebb. Please bring marked sheet music for the provided accompanist. Please no acapella or audio tracks for in-person auditions.
– Bring a headshot (if available) and resume of recent theatre experience. Please indicate on your resume and audition form if you have special skills or dancing skills, as there will not be a dance combo at auditions. Audition forms will be available to fill out at the theatre. If you do not have a headshot or resume, please do not let that stop you from auditioning!
– General auditions will be blind auditions. The director will not be able to see each auditioner as they sing. We want to hear your voice first and limit any preconceived notions. The stage manager will ensure the same blind audition process for any video submissions.
– Video submissions will be accepted, but must be received no later than Sunday, March 16th at 6:00pm. Please email musicals2025octa@gmail.com.
If you cannot make the audition or callback dates and still wish to audition, please email director Charlotte Gilman at musicals2025octa@gmail.com.

ABOUT THE SHOW:
The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!) is a satire of musical theatre, where one story becomes five delightful musicals. The basic plot: June is an ingenue who can’t pay the rent and is threatened by her evil landlord. Will the handsome leading man come to the rescue? The variations are: a Rodgers & Hammerstein version, set in Kansas in August, complete with a dream ballet; a Sondheim version, featuring the landlord as a tortured artistic genius who slashes the throats of his tenants in revenge for not appreciating his work; a Jerry Herman version, as a splashy star vehicle; an Andrew Lloyd Webber version, a rock musical with themes borrowed from Puccini; and a Kander & Ebb version, set in a speakeasy in Chicago. Before it moved off-Broadway, this comic valentine to musical theatre was the longest-running show in the York Theatre Company’s 35-year history.
ROLES:
– The Ingenue
– The Hero
– The Villain
– The Matron
– Casting for this production is flexible – we are not looking to stick with only 4 actors. Casting decisions will become clear during the callback process.
– The roles of the ingenue, the heroic figure, the evil landlord, and the wise matriarch are open for flexible casting. That is, whoever is cast as the ingenue for the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical might be ensemble in the others and then be the wise matriarch in the Kander and Ebb version. Another example: actors might alternate between playing the heroic figure and playing the evil landlord.
