Beyond volunteering, our board contributes to the success of our theatre year round. Both challenging and fulfilling, our board directly shapes the present and future of OCTA year after year.

OCTA (Olathe Civic Theatre Association) is seeking passionate, community-minded individuals to join our Working Board—a dynamic team dedicated to sustaining and growing one of the Kansas City Metro’s most vibrant performing arts venues.
As a board member, you won’t just attend meetings—you’ll play an active role in supporting productions, maintaining our facility, and helping OCTA thrive both behind the scenes and in the spotlight.
What It Means to Serve on OCTA’s Board:
Board members take part in hands-on responsibilities such as:
- Supporting productions by helping with box office and front-of-house operations
- Participating in facility upkeep and improvements (both inside and out)
- Assisting in marketing efforts to boost show visibility and ticket sales
- Hosting and helping with special events like the Buddy Awards and Holiday Show
Board Terms & Structure:
- Executive Board (Officer Positions): 3-year term, reviewed annually; max two consecutive
terms in the same office - Board of Directors (Chair Positions): 2-year term, reviewed annually; no term limit
- Board Member at Large: 1 fiscal year minimum (July 1–June 30)
A 60-day notice is requested for board resignations to ensure a smooth transition.
Time Commitment:
- Monthly Board Meetings: 2nd Saturday of each month, 10am–1pm
- Group cleanings prior to each production: 5 times per year
- Front-of-house duties: Minimum 3 performances per production (approx. 15 shows/year)
- Holiday Show front-of-house: 1 night
- Seasonal outdoor clean-up days: 2 per year (Spring & Fall)
- Help with setup/teardown for board-hosted events
