the 2026-2027 theatre season! Please submit all proposal materials via the link below by

For more information on requirements and tips on building your best director pitch, read below.
*Director submissions are no longer open for the 2026-2027 season. Thank you!*
Let’s start with the basics.
You are invited to submit a slate of up to three scripts you would like to direct at OCTA. Any additional scripts beyond the first three listed will not be considered.
All submissions should include:
- Your theatrical resume
- An overview of your artistic vision for each production you are submitting.
- Potential production team members for each submission
- A physical or digital copy of the script(s)
Please make sure to indicate the times – from Fall 2026 to late Spring 2027 – where you and your production team are available to direct.

Variety is a Plus
Our seasons are made up of five shows, with one or two of those productions being musicals and the rest a mix of comedies and dramas. For the best chance of having one of your scripts selected, include a variety of genres in your submissions.
Keep in Mind the Dimensions of OCTA’s Stage
While OCTA’s stage is geared toward smaller shows, previous directors and designers have created some wonderfully imaginative staging for shows that are historically done on a larger scale. Do not let the space (or lack thereof) scare you and your production team! Our stage dimensions are below for you to use as a guideline as you consider your submissions. See OCTA’s stage dimensions here.
Review Our Past Productions
While you are welcome to submit a show OCTA has done previously, please note that OCTA does not repeat shows that it has done within the past 10 years. Additionally, we try to avoid repeating shows performed by nearby theatre companies within the last 5 years.
OCTA has upgraded its website and is working to update the list of past productions. For now, please reach out to submissions@olathetheatre.org for information.
Submit your dream show
As stated above, while OCTA’s space does restrict the size of productions that we are able to accommodate, previous production teams have created wonderfully imaginative staging solutions for shows often done on a larger scale. If you have a non-traditional way you would like to see a show performed, we would love to hear it!
A synopsis does not an application make
While an in-person interview provides you the opportunity to go into a high level of detail about the production(s) you have submitted, a detailed account of your overall vision is appreciated at time of submission. A more detailed proposal allows the Season Selection Committee the chance to dig deeper during the interview process.
Assemble your dream production team
While submissions with a confirmed production staff are preferred, we understand that coordinating schedules this far in advance may pose an issue. With that in mind, directors interested in submitting a play must have a Stage Manager committed to their production at time of submission. Directors seeking to submit a musical must have both a Music Director and Stage Manager committed to their production at time of submission.
What happens next?
If one (or all) of your submissions are being considered for the upcoming season, you will be contacted to set up an interview. All interviews will take place in February 2026.
