Shakespeare Workshop

The Olathe Civic Theatre Association will be hosting a workshop designed to help actors who are new to working with classical language or those who simply want a refresher. This workshop, facilitated by David Martin, will focus on Shakespearean acting techniques and getting through the barriers of unfamiliar language and verse. Some of the specific techniques will include tricks to get the most out of the “musical” elements of Shakespeare’s writing, how to approach verse (rhymed and unrhymed), how to work with the text to ensure you are conveying the meaning clearly, and more.

Due to space and time constraints, the workshop will be capped at 24 attendees. It is recommended that those planning to audition for The Merry Wives of Windsor who have little or no experience performing Shakespeare attend this workshop, but it is not required. ATTENDANCE AT THIS WORKSHOP WILL NOT GUARANTEE YOU A ROLE IN THE PRODUCTION.

WHAT TO BRING

Something to write on and something to write with. If you have a Shakespearean monologue that you would like to work on, bring it with you as well. We will begin by focusing on pre-determined selections, but there will be time and opportunity to work on individual items for all who would like it.
